Leo Daughtry has been in the jewelry business for more than 60 years.

After returning from World War II, he started working at a jewelry store on Center Street. A few years later, in 1965, he started Daughtry Jewelers.

It is the way jewelry makes people feel that made Daughtry get into the business. "When people give and receive jewelry for any occasion, it makes them feel good, it makes them smile," he said.

For Daughtry Jewelers, it is their service that sets them apart. "We take pride in the satisfaction of our customers," he said.

Daughtry tries hard not to let a customer walk out unsatisfied. "We don't have problems — only solutions," he said.

Those solutions bring the smiles that he loves to see, and of course, the smile mostly comes from a girl receiving a diamond for her left hand or a woman receiving an anniversary gift.

"It makes us feel great to see excited couples picking out their engagement rings and wedding bands," he said.

But their clientele is not strictly the younger generation, and it's not just the older generation either. Most of the time, three or four generations come to Daughtry's store to buy their jewelry.

"Wayne County is home, and we love the people here," he said.

Daughtry's Jewelers specializes in base diamonds. They educate their customers on sizes, grades, clarity and cuts available for diamonds and other gemstones.They can also customize and design mountings for engagement and wedding rings, anniversary rings and fashion jewelry. Special orders are also available.

They have certified gemologists on hand that give written appraisals on all diamonds sold to make sure that their customers know the quality of the jewelry they are buying.

Besides custom jewelry and base diamonds, Daughtry's store carries a large selection of beautiful name brand jewelry including watches.

And, just to add to their service-driven attitude, Daughtry's offers in-store charge accounts with no money down as well as gift wrapping with any purchase.
