Jerry and Ann Kittrell established Kittrell Enterprises in 1982 after he retired from the Air Force. They decided to stay in the area and open a property/casualty insurance agency at 201 S. Berkeley Blvd., directly outside the front gate to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

"Upon my retirement in 1981, this seemed like the perfect area to enjoy military retirement life and embark on a new challenge in my life by opening a business," Kittrell said. "I was fortunate to find an ideal location, and over the years, build up a well-established clientele of devoted and valued customers from within the area."

In 1986, the Kittrells started VIP Insurance Premium Finance Company and sold both the insurance agency and the premium finance company to Ficken-Blackwelder Insurance of Mount Olive in 1997.

In 1988, with the benefit of an existing clientele and good established reputation in the Goldsboro area, they decided to expand operations and start VIP Tax and Accounting. In recent years, business has further expanded to include VIP Check Cashing.

The company's primary service is income tax preparation and electronic filing for individuals, sole proprietorships, partnerships and corporations.

Kittrell says recent computer upgrades will allow for faster processing of tax returns for the 2008 filing season, and many members of the staff who helped with tax returns this year will return next season. Other services include check cashing, notary public and resume services.

By November 2007, the Kittrells anticipate adding a new service business to their location, Adamsville Financial Services, which will provide small loans to qualified consumers.

Although tax preparation is the company's primary service, the office is open year-round, which is convenient for customers.

"We're also a well-established business that offers a variety of services," Kittrell says. "Our staff is knowledgeable, accurate, courteous and professional, and we offer a reliable service."

Several members of the staff have been with the Kittrells since the beginnings in 1988.
