Ryan Schlecht picked up the save in relief of Casey Hodges and Mount Olive claimed its first-ever NCAA Division II College World Series title in school history. The No. 1-ranked Trojans (58-6 overall) defeated Ouachita (Ark.) Baptist 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at GCS Stadium in Sauget, Ill.

<p>Mount Olive is playing for the Division II College World Series title!</p>

<p>The Trojans avoided a two-out jam in the ninth inning to defeat Central Missouri 5-3 in semifinal-round play Thursday afternoon. Rich Racobaldo recorded an unassisted, game-ending putout to catapult Mount Olive into Saturday's championship battle against either Sonoma State (Calif.) or Ouachita (Ark.) Baptist.</p>

<p>Mount Olive (57-6 overall) becomes the first-ever Conference Carolinas baseball team to play for a national championship.</p>

            <title>Trojans hanging on</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Mount Olive used an error and a sacrifice fly to score two seventh-inning runs and build its advantage to 5-1 over Central Missouri in the seventh inning. The Mules answered with a solo home run to pull within 5-2.</p>

<p>The Trojans were retired in order in the top half of the 8th inning.</p>

<p>Todd Jeffreys has entered the game for starting pitcher Kyle Jones, who permitted five hits through seven innings.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Mount Olive has held Central Missouri scoreless for five consecutive innings and leads 3-1 through six innings of play. The Trojans had the bases loaded in the fifth inning with one out, but hit into an inning-ending double play. CMU had a runner at second with no outs in the sixth, but failed to score. MOC pitcher Kyle Jones induced two pop-ups and an inning-ending groundout.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Right fielder Alex Vertcnik combined with shortstop David Cooper and catcher Jason Sherrer to turn an inning-ending double play in the fourth against Central Missouri. The Mules' Bilan Bergman doubled to lead off the inning and was thrown out at the plate on Iain Dinkins' fly ball to Vertcnik. The Trojans lead 3-1 after four complete innings.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Mount Olive shortstop David Cooper picked up a bases-loaded, RBI walk in the second inning to forge a 1-1 tie against Central Missouri. Josh Harrison, who singled with one out, scored on the free pass. Rich Racobaldo followed with a two-out, two-RBI single to put the Trojans ahead 3-1.</p>

<p>Erik Lovett's middle-inning home run put No. 1-ranked Mount Olive in front to stay in an 18-7 victory over Ashland. The Trojans finally get a much-needed day of rest and face either Central Missouri or Shippensburg (Pa.) University on Thursday.</p>
