Briefly'Mockingbird' trivia Ashley Lane Parker of N.C. 111 South knew "nothing," which helped her win last week's "Wayne County Reads" trivia contest. The question was, what does it mean in "To Kill A Mockingbird" when someone is said to "buy cotton" for a living? It was a polite way of saying the person didn't have a job, or did nothing. Ms. Parker was selected in a drawing from all the correct answers and won a hardback copy of the novel. This week's question: Mary Badham was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in the 1962 film version of "To Kill A Mockingbird." What role did she play? Send answers to our office, 310 N. Berkeley Blvd.; mail them to Trivia Contest, Goldsboro News-Argus, P.O. Box 10629, Goldsboro, N.C. 27532; or e-mail mshaw@newsargus.com. Include your name, address and telephone number. The final question in the News-Argus' trivia contest will appear in the March 14 edition.
Hospice raises $28,000 A reverse drawing and silent auction held earlier this month raised $28,000 for the Kitty Askins Hospice Center. It was the second annual event for Home Health & Hospice Care Inc., or 3HC, which runs the center on Wayne Memorial Drive. The fund-raiser was Feb. 12 at the Walnut Creek Country Club. An estimated 400 people participated in the event and had an opportunity to bid on a wide variety of items ranging from sporting goods, weekend getaways and home decor. More than 200 items were donated by merchants and artists from the area. For information about next year's silent auction and reverse drawing, go to www.3hc.org or call 1-800-260-4442.
