There has been a correction to this story:

Bill Kearney, who was stabbed early Sunday by another man, was injured at the Economy Inn, not the Wayne Motel, as was reported in Monday's News-Argus. The other man was charged with a felony assault.

The orginal story follows:

A 45-year-old man from Dudley was stabbed before dawn Sunday during a fight with another man in the Wayne Motel, according to Goldsboro police.

The victim, Bill Kearney, was taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where we kept overnight. He was to be released today, a spokeswoman said.

The other man, Michael Douglas Wiley, 52, of Marshall Drive, Dudley, was arrested by police at the motel. He was charged with a felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.

Kearney told officers that he had argued with Wiley at about 3 a.m. and the argument escalated into a fight. Police collected a pocket knife as evidence, the report said.


A Goldsboro man was robbed Saturday night of $23 by three armed men in the Wayne Motel, a Goldsboro police report said.

Wayne Alan Eason, 43, told police that the suspects pointed a shotgun at him and another man at about 11:10 p.m., grabbed the cash and fled. The suspects were described only as black men in their 20s.


Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:

*A Lowe's riding lawn mower, three drills and a tool box with tools were stolen between Thursday and Sunday from a shed in the 600 block of Pineview Cemetery Road, sheriff's deputies said. The property, owned by Gary M. Stelly Sr., was valued at $1,830. The thief had pried open a lock to get inside.

*A generator, a tool set, a chain saw, two jigsaws and two drills were stolen between Friday and Saturday from an unlocked utility building in the 1200 block of Saulston Road, deputies said. The resident, Russell Daughtry, said his property was worth $1,100.

Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:

*A compact disc player, two speakers, clothes and shoes were stolen and four car headlights were smashed between Friday and Saturday in the 1600 block of North William Street, police said. The stolen property, owned by Donovan Finnan of Goldsboro, was valued at $375. Damage was put at $50 to the car, owned by Marchelle Harris of Dudley.

*A brown 1986 Jeep Cherokee was stolen between Wednesday and Saturday from the 1900 block of North William Street, police said. The owner, Gabriel Miramon Roberto of Goldsboro, did not estimate the car's worth.
