Hall of Fame

The Duplin County Hall of Fame is accepting applications for nominees.

The Hall of Fame banquet will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Country Squire Restaurant near Kenansville.

The Hall of Fame inducts outstanding citizens from its present and past who have helped make the county better.

Last year's Hall of Fame inductees were businessman Dennis Woodrow and the late Judge Winifred Townson Wells. They are among 16 people who have been so honored since 1996, including one living and one deceased each year.

The deadline to submit a completed nomination form is Sept. 25. To receive an application, call Anne Houston, the Hall of Fame president, at 910-296-0756.

The Wayne County chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police is conducting a fund drive. An item in Sunday's Briefly column said it was not, but that was a misunderstanding.

Goldsboro Police Sgt. Ken Edwards said the F.O.P.'s drive is being conducted by one of the chapter's members.

Sunday's item reported that someone is conducting a fund-raiser through telephone calls for the "Goldsboro chapter of the F.O.P," but Edwards said there is no such thing as a "Goldsboro" chapter. Anyone who gets a call purporting to come from that group should call him at 580-0060, Edwards said.

Attention outdoorsmen

A special hunting and fishing section will be included in the News-Argus on Sept. 16.

Pictures should be sent or e-mailed to Judy Smith at the Goldsboro News-Argus, P.O. Box 10629, Goldsboro, 27532, no later than Friday, Sept. 10. The e-mail address is jsmith@newsargus.com.

An actual photograph, not a polaroid or a scanned print, is needed.
