If summertime is calling you, go ahead and mark your calendar now for Center Street Jam's 2005 schedule.
Perennial favorite The Band of Oz kicks off the festivities Thursday, May 25, and the season ends with The Embers on Thursday, Aug. 25.
The lineup includes some acts that have not performed at past Jams, including The Main Event and Jackie Gore and the All-Stars.
Organizers chose both tested performers and newcomers, said Sherry Archibald, promotions coordinator for the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation. They solicited recommendations and listened to recordings of acts that had not played here.
"We wanted a mix of beach music and older top 40," she said today. "That seems to be the key to drawing a large crowd."
The schedule does not include The Mardi Gras Band, which has performed the lest few years.
"It was a tough choice, and I am sure we'll have them back," Ms. Archibald said. "We just wanted to have some slots for new groups."
The 2005 schedule is:
May 5 -- Band of Oz.
May 19 -- Rickey Godfrey.
June 2 -- The Main Event.
June 16 -- Coastline.
June 30 -- Craig Woolard.
July 14 -- Liquid Pleasure.
July 28 -- Jackie Gore and the All-Stars.
Aug. 11 -- Captain Cook and the Coconuts.
Aug. 25 -- The Embers.
The concerts will again begin at 5:30 p.m. and end around 8 p.m. The location is the same -- the parking lot off Center Street near Waynesborough House.
