Goldsboro Chapter of the Continental Societies to host Mid-Atlantic session

The Goldsboro chapter of Continental Societies, Inc., will host the 21st annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express in Goldsboro.

There are 13 chapters in the Mid-Atlantic Region including chapters from Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The Continental Societies, Inc., is a public service organization founded in June 1956 and incorporated nationally in 1972. The national organization includes chapters throughout the United States and Bermuda.

The organization's purpose is to foster, promote and develop the welfare of children and youth who are disadvantaged and who have special needs.

The Goldsboro chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. was organized in 1961 by Gertrude Cox and it was incorporated in 1972. The local chapter sponsors program and activities that benefits the children of Goldsboro, Wayne and surrounding counties.

The Goldsboro Chapter sponsors the Continental Pageant as its major fund-raiser. Proceeds from the pageant are used to fund the organization's projects and scholarship program.

The chapter also provides support to more than a dozen other projects and organizations.

The mission of the Continental Societies is to create wholesome environments within our community that empower children and youth to have access to optimum quality lives, thus enabling them to achieve success in their personal and professional lives.

This year's theme is "Our Children, Our Commitment, Our Concern."
