Goldsboro singer among Gimme the Mike! finalists

Daniel D. Johnson, 30, of Goldsboro is one of 20 contestants selected for Fox 50's Gimme the Mike!, a statewide American Idol-style competition.
Johnson was one of six hundred people who auditioned for the final round of competition April 13-14 in Raleigh.
At the auditions in February, he sang "Wind Beneath My Wings." After two weeks, he received notice that he had made the cut.
A graduate of Goldsboro High School and Wayne Community College, Johnson comes from a musical family and has sung at many local events. He also plays the saxophone. He works at ReNu Life and helps with the music program at Eastern Wayne High School.
Johnson will compete in the televised event for a chance to win a trip to New York City to audition before record executives and record a demo tape with Osceola Recording Studios.
The taping of the show in Raleigh is open to the public and will be held at the BTI Center. Admission is free. A live grand finale will be broadcast on May 25.
