Army Pvt. Mendell L. Williams has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
A 2001 graduate of Southern Wayne High School, he is the son of Dixie Williams of Dudley.
Marine Corps Staff Sgt. LaDon D. Thompson, the son of Phyllis S. Thompson and Donnie R. Thompson of Goldsboro, was recently deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of the the Anti-Terrorism Battalion, which is home
based at Camp Lejeune. The primary mission of Thompson's unit is to rapidly deploy specially trained and sustainable forces to detect, deter, and defend against terrorism, as well as to conduct crisis response in the event of a terrorist attack.
He is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.
Air Force Airman Kimberly L. Trowell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, she studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Lamar Trowell of LaGrange.
