Getting ready for the drop: From left, Craig Brock, R.L. Grady and Ray Joyner of Mt. Olive Pickle Company show the new pickle that will be dropped Saturday evening during the seventh annual New Year's Eve Pickle Drop at the corner of Cucumber and Vine in Mount Olive. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. and the pickle will be dropped into a redwood pickle tank at 7 from the company's flagpole. The drop occurs at 7 p.m. because that is midnight Greenwich Mean Time. People are asked to bring canned food for the Salvation Army's food pantry.
