PLANTING TIME: Willie Howell, front, Curtis Howell, Tony Garris and Timmy Sasser set tobacco plants tuesday on the farm of Gerald Howell on N.C. 111 North. Howell was the first farmer in Wayne to start planting tobacco and plans to harvest about 125 acres this year. The first day gave the crew a chance to "work out all the bugs" with the equipment, Howell said.
