FREMONT -- Fremont STARS Elementary School student are taking their production of "Oh Rats!" on the road later this week when they travel to Raleigh.
The fourth-grade, fifth- grade and exceptional children classes were invited to Brentwood Elementary School to perform the musical, which is a retelling of the Robert Browning Poem, "The Pied Pipe of Hamelin."
Principal Beverly Smith said this year's production was presented at the school Oct. 26 to a packed house. It contained a variety of music styles ranging from the Charleston to swing to rap.
The STARS productions were started as an attempt to bring the arts into the classroom, said teacher Jim Grant, who directed "Oh Rats!"
Students were involved in a variety of roles in addition to acting, he said. They also created and designed sets, costumes, flyers and programs through the use of music, art, PE and technology.
