Wayne County residents might know this week if Dr. Kay Albertson will officially be chosen as the new president of Wayne Community College.
The State Board of Community Colleges will convene its regular monthly meeting at the WCC campus later this week.
The board meets on two campuses each year to give members a chance to see the colleges and interact with students. The visit to Wayne Community was scheduled well in advance, to coincide with the college's 50th anniversary celebration this year.
In addition to holding the meeting of the full board and various committees, discussion is expected to center around the selection of the successor to President Ed Wilson, who is retiring at the end of June. At the March meeting of the Wayne Community College Board of Trustees, Dr. Albertson, vice president of academic affairs and student services, was named their choice. The state board will be asked to approve the selection.
The state board is also charged with replacing current system president and Wayne County native Martin Lancaster, who recently announced his retirement.
While in Goldsboro, the state board will be given a tour of the college campus and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and will have a chance to play a round of golf or work out at the Family Y.
