Zachary Moenter, 5, above, looks down at the cross on this headstone and reads the inscription — one of many Wayne County stories that ended in the death of a solider. The child was one of more than 100 Wayne residents who showed up at Wayne Memorial Park Saturday morning to pay tribute to local soldiers lost. More than 3,000 graves were visited — a flag placed next to each headstone — as part of the Wayne County Veterans Patriot Coalition’s service. In addition to the weekend events, the honoring of local veterans continued today across Wayne County. A special service was planned for today at Wayne Community College to honor those who gave their lives for their country. Veterans and others from around the area gathered to remember the country’s heroes — past and present.
