KINSTON -- Kinston will be the site of a week-long celebration of North Carolina's first governor, Richard Caswell, a hero of the Revolutionary War.
Commemorative events are planned for Aug. 12-19.
The Caswell Memorial State Historic Site Museum will reopen with new exhibits. The observance will begin with a memorial service Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Throughout the week, there will be concerts, lectures and exhibits. On Aug. 17, a mock funeral for Caswell will be held, with a horse-drawn hearse and Masonic rites.
