Police say they have identified a 21-year-old man found dead of gunfire on Monday night in the Courtyard Circle apartment complex.
Goldsboro Police Investigator Dave Cloutier said murder victim Rakeem Jeffery, 21, was from New Jersey.
Police have no suspects yet.
"He had only been down here in Goldsboro a couple of months," Cloutier said.
Police have no motive yet, and Cloutier said it's not clear if the killing had anything to do with drugs or gang activity.
Jeffery had no relatives in the area, the investigator said.
Police found Jeffery mortally wounded in a field near basketball courts at Courtyard Circle around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
He was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Monday, police said.
Jeffery's death marks the fifth fatal shooting in Goldsboro since April 22.
