DUDLEY -- A Wayne County man was killed in a traffic accident on Sleepy Creek Road early Sunday afternoon, authorities said today.
Preliminary reports indicate that Ralph Hinson Jr., 66, of Emmaus Church Road, died in the single-vehicle accident that occurred about 12:30 p.m.
Officers with the state Highway Patrol could not be reached to verify the report, but Wayne County Emergency Medical Services Supervisor Delbert Edwards said this morning that the Indian Springs Fire Department and a unit from the county Emergency Medical Service Station No. 8 in Dudley responded to the crash.
Electrical power went out in the area as a result of the accident, Edwards said.
"Apparently, they ... did contact Tri-County, for no reason other than the power was out, and it apparently had something to do with the accident," the communications supervisor said.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
No other details about the accident were available before press time.
