Jess Hawkins, right, from the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, talks with students about various sea creatures and marine life on Tuesday at Wayne Academy. It was a day off for students, but approximately 250 from grades four through eight attended Wayne County Public Schools' third annual Academically and Intellectually Gifted Winter Festival to learn more about science and art. Other presenters at the conference included representatives from the Children's Museum and Science Center, storyteller Ron Jones, artist Harry Davis and John Lemmon, who taught students about clay animations.
