Myra Brian reads her poem on the beauty of Old Grantham Road in Goldsboro. Brian was inspired to write the poem on the beauty of the old country road.
The blossoms that inspired Myra Brian, like the spring, are fading.
The pinks, purples and reds, which, only a few weeks ago, transformed what would have been a routine drive down Old Grantham Road into something more, have all but gone.
But the words that met paper as a result of their presence will remain with Miss Brian always -- a reminder, she said, of the beauty that comes only in a few-week flash every year when winter turns over to a brighter season.
And that poem -- the first she had written in decades, "since high school" -- she decided, should be shared with others who have witnessed what she found along that strip.
So that maybe, they, too, will allow themselves to take it all in during the next "dance."
"I don't know what made me do it, but I felt like I just had to get my thoughts onto paper," Miss Brian said. "It's just such a pretty place. It's so pretty when you ride down there.
"I just enjoy the ride every time. People who haven't been down there, oh yeah, I think they are definitely missing out."
