A benefit to raise money for a scholarship fund for a Southern Wayne High School student who died in February is being planned for Friday, May 4, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m..
Kevin Wise was a senior who had accepted an athletic scholarship to play baseball at the University of North Carolina. He died in his sleep on Feb. 18.
Friends and family hope to establish a scholarship in his name to be given annually to a Southern Wayne student. The goal of the benefit is to sell 1,000 plates. It will be held at the Bobby Denning Community Building on N.C. 55 West.
Eat-in, take-out and drive-through plates of barbecue pork will be available for $7 each. Delivery is available for orders of 10 or more plates.
All proceeds will go to the scholarship established through the Kevin Wise Jr. Scholarship non-profit organization.
