A $35,000 excavator was stolen from a field in the 2300 block of Antioch Road, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said Friday. The large piece of machinery is yellow in color and has some damage to the front end.
A customer at the Kangaroo convenience store, 453 Buck Swamp Road, committed a crime of opportunity Thursday. When the clerk turned his back the customer reached across the counter and swiped $50 that had been set aside to be deposited into the store's safe. He took the money and left, but the whole scenario was captured on the store video.
Friends of Laura Ponce Huerta, 50, 2540 Indian Springs Road, called her at work Thursday to tell her they drove by her home and saw the door open. She went home and discovered a break-in. Thieves had removed two flat screen televisions and gold jewelry. The value of items stolen was listed at $1,600.
