Big Sweep 2012 was held earlier this month across the nation.
Wayne County had 16 sites cleaned. Nine of those sites have turned in results, reporting that 141 volunteers collected 501/2 bags of trash weighing 636 pounds.
They cleaned 19 miles of waterways and other areas.
Volunteers at two sites collected medical waste materials, which were disposed of properly. A wallet that had been stolen was recovered from another site and returned to its owner, but cash and credit cards were missing.
