Assault with a deadly weapon

Donta Devon Broadhurst, 26, of 611 E. Elm St., told police he was assaulted by his girlfriend with a baseball bat in the 1300 block of Maple Street, Tuesday. Broadhurst walked to the Wayne County Magistrate's Office after the assault to file a report. The report did not indicate any charges against the girlfriend. Broadhurst, however, was in Tuesday's public record as having been charged Monday with second-degree trespassing and destruction of property. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond. It was not clear whether the two cases are related.

A Goldsboro man assaulted in West Haven on Monday was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital for a broken jaw, according to a Goldsboro police report. Deante Ireal Gaines, 23, 921 Hugh St., told investigators he was struck by two men forcing him to fall to the ground. The beating continued, resulting in his injuries. No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
