ROGER D. EVANS
OXFORD -- Roger Davis "Joe" Evans, 71, brother of Jasper D. Evans of Dudley, died Saturday at home.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Whetstone Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. R.N. Holloway will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born in Oxford to the late John Henry and Bessie Pettiford Evans. He retired from Oxford Tobacco Research Station with 30 years of service and was a Mason in the New Johnathan Creek Lodge #722.
In addition to his brother, Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Mattie Chavis Evans of the home; three daughters, Rita Hargrove of Clarksville, Va., Salinder "Pat" Evans of Wake Forest and Tyrelle Evans of Charlotte; one son, Roger Evans of Oxford; four sisters, Ethel Webb, Mayola Gregory and Shirley Fields of Oxford and Bessie Wilson of Arlington, Va.; four other brothers, Eckard Evans, Oscar Evans, Roy Evans and Carnell Evans of Oxford; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8 at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
