Melvin "Bobby" Cox, the son of the late Louis Cox Sr. and Zola Best Cox, was born on February 23, 1938 in Wayne County. He slept away at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Saturday, April 16, 2005.

He was a native of Wayne County and attended Wayne County Schools, graduating in 1957 from Dillard High School. After graduation, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was employed at Cherry Hospital in the Transportation Department with 26 wonderful years of service.

He was a faithful member and served on numerous auxiliaries at Elm Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ.

He was married to the late Glennie M. Everett and to this union was born three children. Later, he met and married Carrie E. Millard and to this union was one child born. They were united in holy matrimony for 33 years.

He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carrie M. Cox; two sons, Dennis Cox and Robby (Kim) Millard of Goldsboro; one godson, Steven (Wendy) Millard; three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Pitt, Shirlene Cox and Melba Sykes and Melba Sykes of the home; one goddaughter, Angela Spruill; and seven grandchildren, Michael Pitt II, Malcolm Pitt, Courtney Pitt, Chelsea Millard, Maleiyah Sykes, Steven Millard and Alexis Millard.

Additionally, he leaves behind three brothers, Louis Cox Jr. of Raleigh, Dallas Cox and Raymond Cox of Goldsboro; two sisters, Zelda (John) Braswell and Betty Coley of Goldsboro; a special brother-in-law, Maryland (Helen) Ransome of Goldsboro; one aunt, Ada Herron of Goldsboro; and one uncle, Henry (Viola) Cox of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a special friend, Jarvis Spencer of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Elm Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Pikeville. Elder Kenneth Vaughn and Elder Robby Millard will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

The viewing will be held on Tuesday (today) from 3 until 8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Goldsboro.
