Phoebe Herring Murphy, 74, died Thursday morning at her home surrounded by her family.

She was a loving mother, wife and friend.

Mrs. Murhpy was born in Johnston County to the late Herbert G. Herring and Ethel Ferrell Herring. She was a long-time member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

The funeral will beheld Thursday at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Farthing officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl Murphy; her daughter, Lynn Rabhan, and husband, Sam, of Goldsboro; her daughter, Ann Compton, and husband, Paul, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Samuel Rabhan and Sarah Compton; and two brothers, Bill Herring and Kenneth Herring of Selma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Herring.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834; or to Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at 123 Overbrook Road.
