JOHN W. DAVIS

John Wesley Davis, 88, a resident of the Alterra Sterling House in Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday at the Alterra Sterling House.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro with Brother Jimmy Millard officiating.
Mr. Davis was born in Greenville, S.C. to the late Arthur and Emma Willis Davis. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Davis resided in Laurens, S.C. for over 40 years before relocating to Port Orange, Fla. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Laurens and retired from the Carolina Milling Company. He was also a member of the Exchange Club of America. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He is survived by three daughters, Melissa D. Taylor and her husband, Tim, of Goldsboro, Caroline D. Griffin and her husband, Tim, of Groveland, Fla., and Wesley D. Welborn and her husband, Roger, of Port Orange, Fla.; one brother, Walter Davis and his wife, Patsy, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Davis Taylor, Miranda Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Morgan Hartsell and Cole Griffin and one great-grandchild, Caleb Patterson.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Alterra Sterling House, the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice and his private sitter, Antoinette "Toni" Braswell for the excellent care given to our father over the past year.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ida Lance Davis; three brothers, Athol, Don and Luke Davis; and one sister, Doris Lynch.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of John W. Davis, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 268, Raleigh, 27611.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
