Grace Martin Phillips, 225 Cedar Berry Lane, Chapel Hill, died Thursday at the DuBose Health Center at the Cedars of Chapel Hill. A native of Anderson County, S.C., she was the daughter of he late Dr. William Tillman and Grace Charles Martin.

A 1944 graduate of Converse College with a Bachelor Degree in Music, Grace was a life long supporter of Converse and served in various capacities including the Alumnae Board, Secretary and Chairman of Records and Recognition Committee, and Class Representative. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and served as a board member of the Women of the Church and as a Circle and PACE leader. Her community activities included service as a board member of the Assembly of Spartanburg, Junior League of Spartanburg, Georgia Cleveland Home, Music Foundation of Spartanburg, and Daughter of the American Revolution.

She enjoyed time and friends as a member of the Fruit and Flower Gardners, Book End's Club and Bridge Club.

Survivors include her husband, Harry Rissler Phillips Jr.; two sons, Dr. Harry R. Phillips III and wife, Jane, of Durham, Thomas Martin Phillips and wife, Anne, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; daughter, Grace Phillips Franklin and her husband, Jeff, of Goldsboro.

Lovingly named "Miss Mother," Grace is also survived by special loves, six grandchildren, Lee Phillips Otis and her husband, Thomas, Anne Phillips Carter and husband, Wes, Grace Martin Franklin, Catherine Lytton Phillips, Thomas Martin Phillips II, and Jeffery Butler Franklin Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Grace Otis and Alice Benet Otis.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. J. Lawrence Bates. The family will receive friends following the service at the Piedmont Club. A private family burial will follow at Fairview Presbyterian Church in Fountain Inn, S.C. A memorial service will be at The Cedars of Chapel Hill at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3.
