REV. JAMES R. ROWE
June 6, 1935-July 18, 2007
The Rev. James Rudolph Rowe, age 72, of 4041 Nahunta Road in Pikeville, died early Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late George and Leona Moore Rowe and husband of the late Irma Jean Barwick Rowe. The youngest of nine children, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edison, George Jr., Othel, Robert; sisters, Ruby, Myrtle, Annie and Jewel; and an infant son, George Oscar Rowe. A member of Rosewood Baptist Church, he was a founding member of the King's Messengers Quartet and was active with the Neuse Baptist Association. He was a former member of the Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed delivering Meals On Wheels for WAGES. His lifetime ministry was small churches and the youth.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Stallings, the Rev. Larry Bostian and the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Pittman Rowe; his children, Thomas and Vivian Rowe of Dudley, Mary and Kenneth Gardner and Lynne and Tommy Herndon, all of Pikeville; grandchildren, Clay and Hy Gardner, Crystal and Berry Gray, Elizabeth Rowe, Reagan Herndon and Trent Herndon; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Gardner; stepchildren, Gary and Dawn Pittman, Roger and Gale Pittman, Sheila and Steve Brogden, Greg and Wendy Pittman, Denise and Allen Daniels, Donald and Donna Bass; 17 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Family members will greet friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Family Life Center of the Rosewood Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
The Rowe family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Gideon's International or to Meals On Wheels.
