On Saturday our hearts were saddened by the loss of our loved one, James A. Johnson, 80, who departed this life at McGuire Medical Center for Veterans Hospice Care.

He was born in Lake Butler, Fla., to the late Margaret Miller.

Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army for 20 years as a Sgt.-E6 and 15 years with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was often times referred to as the "Peanut Man." Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his spouse, Berta Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Evelyne B. Bowden and husband, Ulysses, of Mount Olive, N.C.; two brothers, Ulysses Jones and wife, Glenda, of Lady Lake, Fla., and Jethroe Jones of Leesburg, Fla.; four sisters, Margaret Sirmons and husband, Elvin, of Leesburg, Fla., Margie Crowder and husband, Sabree, of Webster, Fla., Clennie McCray of Tampa, Fla., and Helen Furlaw of Ococee, Fla.; two grandchildren, Yvonne Bowden-Parker and Amber Bowden; one great-grandchild, Victor Malik Parker; a very special friend, Ernistie Jordan; and his closet and best friends, Mr. Finley and Mr. Pulley.

On Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. the family will receive friends at the chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home. Immediately following, funeral services will be held 6 p.m. in the Chapel. The Rev. William N. Bland Jr., pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, will officiate. The interment will follow 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18 in Wayne Memorial Park, Goldsboro, N.C.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to any of the following organizations: VFW 622 of Petersburg, DAV Chapter 47 or American Legion Post 120. The family may be contacted at the residence by calling 804-732-6620.
