Nora White Miller, 84, died Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. She was born in Fayette, Ala., to the late Thornton L. White and Carrie Ballenger White. She married the late Charles C. Miller of Tyrone, Pa., on Aug. 13, 1952, and they had a blessed union for 45 years.

Mrs. Miller loved sacred harp singing that she grew up with (background info at Awakemysoul.com) that is also called shaped note singing where the notes are sung first and then the words. Singers travel around to singings. She will be buried beside her husband at Mount Lebanon Church in Fayette County, Ala., near her parents.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. As an Air Force wife she traveled to many states and countries. She lived in New York, Kansas, Alabama, North Carolina and France. Since returning to Goldsboro, she has attended many Wayne County 4-H and Boy Scout functions where she was affectionately known as "mom."

Memorial services will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Directions to church are as follows: From Goldsboro take U.S. Highway 117 South towards Clinton. It will change to Highway 403. 1.9 miles past the Interstate 40 turn to Wilmington the church will be located on the right. (There are 2-3 churches in a short distance). It is at the corner of 403 and Giddeonsville Road.

Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by her brothers, Franklin White of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Freddie White of Dothan, Ala., and his wife, Lonell White.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Byers of Goldsboro, Bob and Mickey Miller of Fort Payne, Ala, Charles Miller of Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Charlene White of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, John and Melissa Byers of Wilmington, Bobby and Brandi Byers of Wilmington, Larry and Kay Marshall of Prattville, Ala., Robby and Tanaia Marshall of Foley, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Merenda Marshall of Foley, Ala., Colebie Marshall of Prattville, Ala., Ralie, Mia and Avery Marshall of Foley, Ala., Bryson and Bryon Byers of Wilmington, Kyleigh and Reece Byers of Wilmington; many nieces, nephews and special friends, Lindsay Stutts, Marie Andrews, Jan and Gary Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534 in her memory.

Thanks to for all the prayers and thoughts for mom and me over the past two years. They gave us both great comfort.
