Died April 8, 2008

LAGRANGE -- Meta Mewborn Joyner, 90, of LaGrange and Memphis, Tenn., since March 2006, died Tuesday at the Memphis Jewish Home. Mrs. Joyner was an educator in Lenoir County, N.C., a member of St. Mary's F.W.B. Church, NAACP, American Business Women's Association, Eastern Star and the North Carolina Retired Teacher's Association.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at St. Mary's F.W.B. Church in LaGrange, N.C. Interment will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston, N.C.

Mrs. Joyner was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Joyner; her parents, Elijah and Lorena Pridgen Mewborn; a sister, Esther Hamilton; and a brother, Herman Mewborn.

She leaves a son, Royce E. Joyner; a daughter-in-law, Sirella Parker-Joyner; and one grandchild, Royce Etienne Parker Joyner, all of Memphis.
