LARRY STEVE COLLINS

Larry Steve Collins, 60, of the Rosewood Community, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 125 John St., Goldsboro; Dr. Glenn Phillips and the Rev. Rose Hicks will officiate. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. A private inurnment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Larry was a member of First Baptist Church, Goldsboro. He also enjoyed Christian fellowship at Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Princeton Baptist Church.
Larry enjoyed dancing and was an active member of Sugarfoot Shag Club prior to his illness. He was blessed with many close friends and fellow "shaggers" in several area shag clubs.
Larry retired from BellSouth (now AT&T) and was employed by Telics of Winston-Salem until his death. He was greatly admired by many co-workers in both the Goldsboro and Oak Park (Raleigh) BellSouth offices.
Born to the late Barney and Elizabeth Jones Collins, Larry grew up in the Rosewood area. He was a devoted husband and loving father. His philosophy for life was "God first, family second, others third, and yourself last." He unselfishly gave his time and energy to helping others, and in doing so, was able to witness for Christ.
Larry is survived by his wife, Vera VanHoy Collins; a son, Jason Allen Collins and wife, Jennifer, of Rosewood; daughters, Kimberly Denise Collins of Willow Springs; and Jeanette Gregory Waters and husband, Marty, of Grantham; brothers, Barney Collins Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Missouri; Donald Collins and wife, Willie, of Goldsboro; Norman Collins and wife, Kathy, of Goldsboro; sisters, Faye Braswell and husband, Earl, of Princeton, and Ann Griffin of Rosewood. He is also survived by three grandsons, Kearney Allen Collins, Colton James Waters and Gavin Reece Waters.
In addition to his family, Larry is survived by his beloved "brothers and sisters in Christ," J.R. and Jackie Barbee, Brian and Suzanne Mitchell, John and Ann Dukay, Thomas and Dawn Potter; beloved neighbors, Harold, Patti and Molly Kilpatrick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Youth Fund, 3959 W. U.S. 70 Hwy., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
