"Mr. Ed," as he was fond of being called, was born July 26, 1927, to Walter Lawson Edwards and Lillie Orfield Edwards, in Todd, N.C. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and served until 1947. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in July 1973. He was a true patriot, and believed serving our country was one of the highlights of his life. He enjoyed walks, crossword puzzles, and quizzing his family on geography trivia.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Grubb, brother Ward Beecher Edwards, and nephew Randall Grubb.

Surviving are son G.C. and Gale of Goldsboro; daughter Donna and Ceasar of Greensboro, fiancée Edna Oakley of Oxford; sister Betty and Charles Phillips of Hudson; sister-in-law Eileen of Boone; brothers Buren and Olabell Edwards of West Jefferson; Lindsay and Doris Edwards of West Jefferson; and Danny and Bertie Edwards of Thomasville.

He was affectionately known as "Uncle Doc" to many nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly.

A friend to animals, Dad enjoyed playing with Sophie, Buddy, Benji, Boz, Katie, and Lassie.

Mr. Edwards' family would like to express appreciation to the wonderful team at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, especially our nurse, Monique Dunbar and nurse tech, Tomi Owens. Our thanks also go to Drs. Amy Stevenson and Gregg Taylor and staff, as well as the Durham VA Medical Center, for their exceptional care.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C., 27405.

"We love you, Dad."
