Howard Simon Johnson, 80, 408 S. Oak Forest Road, passed away on Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Howard Johnson was born April 8, 1928, to the late Simon Franklin Johnson and Mary Baity Johnson. He was married to the late Ruby Mae Hutchens. Howard joined the Air Force in 1946 and served his country for 26 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he really started to work. Working as a welder for various construction companies, Maintenance Supervisor for Medical Park Nursing Home and as a Maintenance Technician for Granite Glove. His favorite job of all was playing in a country western band for many years.

He is survived by three sisters, Marie Gorduek, Cora Jones, Velma Hall and one brother, Gerald Johnson. Howard and Ruby had five children. He was preceded in death by his son Wayne, wife Ruby and daughter Teresa. He is survived by three children, son Mike Johnson and wife Jan Jones of Conway, Ark., daughter Vickie and husband Jim List of Wake Forest and son Steve and wife Connie Johnson of Seven Springs.

He had six grandchildren, Wayne Johnson, Michael Johnson, Justin and wife Chrissy Johnson, Steven Johnson, Blake Kornegay and Crystal Johnson. He had five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard has spent the past eight years with his companion and best friend Frances Jackson of Dudley. They traveled to their Lake Gaston home regularly and enjoyed each others company, playing guitars and singing. Howard always enjoyed being in the company of her family as well.

He will be missed dearly in all of our daily lives and is loved by all.
