PRINCETON -- William Gresham "Sam" Lee, 86, was called by his Lord to his Heavenly Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Lee Eames and the Rev. Dwayne Batten officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Princeton Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Born April 17, 1922, in Johnston County to the late Arthur E. and Agnes Joyner Lee, he was preceded in death by brothers, Sidney Lee, Robert Lee, Jim Lee, John Lee, Bernard Lee, Guy Lee, Newton Lee; sisters, Annie Mae Worley, Ruby Hinnant and Mary Lou Rose and a great-grandson, Austin Mark Johnson. Gresham was a certified welder with CP and L for 28 years before his retirement. A lifelong member of the Princeton Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and former Sunday school Teacher, he also served on numerous other committees. He was a charter member of the Princeton Fire Department and also served as a Fire Tax Commissioner.

Gresham had many things to be proud of, not the least of which was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but one of the things he was most proud of was being a United States Marine. He enlisted into the Marines prior to W.W.II and was honorably discharged; a short time later he was drafted back into the Marines to serve during W.W.II. Working as a bench machinist while in the service he also qualified as a rifle sharpshooter and served as a fire fighter.

Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia B. Lee; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Hester and Kenneth, Betty Lee and Ronnie Woodard and Jenny Lee Starling and Ken; eight grandchildren and spouses are Kelly Johnson and Mark, Jason Hester and Karra, Matt Chestnut and Nichole, Ben Hester and Donna, Stephanie Hough and Adam, Amanda Hobbs and Chris, Derek Hester and Tara and Josh Hester and Amber Pittman; nine great-grandchildren, Meredith Johnson, Madelyn Hobbs, Ruthie Hester, Alaina Johnson, Andrew Hester, Liam Hester, Molly Hobbs, Wyatt Chestnut and Blake Hough.

Also surviving are special friends, the Rev. Lee and Melissa Eames and special neighbor Jack Reeves.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Princeton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 215, Princeton, N.C., 27569.
