LITHONIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Sharon Fannea Coley, beloved wife of Rudolph Coley Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday at Dekalb Medical Center in Lithonia, Ga.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro with burial to follow in Coley Cemetery in Pikeville.

Sharon was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1946. She attended both elementary and high school in Brooklyn. After graduating from high school, Sharon immediately entered the U.S. Army, finishing her stint as an non-commissioned officer.

Sharon earned a Ford Foundation Scholarship to the University of Massachusetts where she received a B.A. in Education. Sharon then re-entered the U.S. Army, ultimately attaining the rank of captain. She also continued her education at Pepperdine University, receiving a Master's degree in Human Resources Management.

Sharon's expertise earned her a position of Professor of Military Science at Prairie View A&M University. Her military connection afforded her the opportunity to travel outside the U.S. to locations including Kuwait, Germany, and Korea. Sharon retired after 28 years of service with the U.S. military and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Sharon was a go-getter, strong, devoted, loving, funny, kind, and yes, a great gourmet cook. She will never be replaced.
