Bessie Lewis Crosby, 74, of The Pines of Goldsboro departed peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, Sept. 28, 2009 from 7 until 8: 30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Home-going services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Park East Church of God. Services will be officiated by the Rev. John Moore and the Rev. Wesley Jarman. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Bessie was born Feb. 9, 1935 in Wayne County to the late Casper and Della Lewis. She was a member of Park East Church of God for 20 years. A joy to be around, she loved and was loved by all who knew her. She cherished her family and treasured her friends. She was known in her church as Sister Giggles. Her jolly laugh brought grace into our lives. Through the trials and adversity in her life, her hope was found in Christ. She glorified God in her life and death.

Bessie is survived by one sister, Betty Francis Jones of Goldsboro; one brother, Cecil Lewis of Georgia; five children, Wanda and husband John Moore of Florida, Teresa and husband, Joseph Kearney, of New York, Mary and husband, Wally Paulk, of Florida, Timothy Anderson of Florida, and Bill Anderson of Florida; grandchildren, Michelle and Rick Rodriquez, Shannon and Brian Daniels, Mandy and Chris Ramsey, Jillian and Mike Scerra, Shana Kearney, Krysta Kearney, Shawna and Ben Smith, Stephen Crespo, Salina Fountas, Ryan Anderson, Brandon and Skyler Anderson, Blake Anderson, Zachary Anderson, and Chelsea Anderson. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Bass and Edgar Davis; great-granddaughter Hayley Kate Rodriquez; and nephew Billy Ray Jones.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be made to Park East Church of God at 3913 McLain St., Goldsboro, NC 27534 and Kitty Askins Hospice Center at 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
