Dale B. Gainey, 75, of 459 Sandhill Dr., died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jerry A. Jackson and the Rev. Vernon Brown officiating. Entombment will follow at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late W.C. and Gladys Futrell Gainey and brother of the late James T. Gainey and Walter R. Gainey. Dale was a retired educator with the Wayne County Public Schools and a member of Providence United Methodist Church.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy and an Eagle Scout, Dale was a retired member of the Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Department and was well known for his many years of running the Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Department Fair Booth. He was an elected board member of the Southern Wayne Sanitary District, member of the N.C. Retired School Personnel, past president of the Wayne County Retired School Personnel, president of the Wayne County Democratic Men, served on the N.C. Democratic Party State Executive Committee and the Waylin Chapter of AARP. He was a very active member of Providence United Methodist Church, where he was the former chairman of the Board of Trustees and had served as a Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Gainey is survived by his wife, Betty Jernigan Gainey; one son and daughter-in-law, Walter Calvin and Cathi Gainey of Rock Hill, S.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara G. and Franco Auriti of Mansfield, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Ashley "Duck" and Melisia Gainey of Goldsboro; two sisters, Judith Gainey Cates of High Point, and Marilyn Gainey Ryden of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Lib Gainey and Joyce Gainey, both of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Blake Auriti, Garrett Auriti, Devon Auriti, Landry Gainey Thomas and husband, Matt Thomas, Renee Gainey, Ben Gainey and Chris Gainey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends this evening from 5 until 8 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
