Charles Bruce McRae, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Wake Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Robeson County April 8, 1937, to Frances Ward McRae and the late Bruce Knox McRae.

He retired from Honeywell after 32 years of service, retiring Oct. 10, 2000.

Charles was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon, chairman of the property's committee and member of the Baptist Men.

He refereed for the NCHS Athletic Association from 1966 to 1998, and along with Colin Brown, he initiated the baseball park in Mar Mac.

Charles served his country for four years in the United States Air Force.

He will be remembered as loving husband, father, papa, son, brother and uncle. Charles had a great love for his community, and could often be found helping others in their time of need.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Toler, the Rev. George Fox and the Rev. Stephen Burrow officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia Pittman McRae; his daughters, Renee M. Sparks and husband, Jeff, of Mount Olive, Ann M. Smith and husband, Chris, of Chapel Hill and Leigh M. Cox and husband, Dean, of Goldsboro; his brother, James M. "Billy" McRae and wife, Wendy, of Hope Mills; his sister, Faye M. Hodge and husband, Mickey, of Maxton; his grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Sparks, Casey Nicole Sparks, Joshua Dean Cox, Andrew Bruce Cox, Christopher Blake Smith Jr. and Margaret Ann Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Love Memorial Baptist Church at 192 Woodland Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 16, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
