Died March 9, 2012

The ancient Greeks asked only one question at death. It wasn't about the money or possessions a person collected. It was not about their social station, or even their educational attainment. Instead, these learned men and women asked "Did he/she live with passion?" If you know passion, you know life. If you do not, life eludes you.

STATESVILLE -- Billie Bert Swanson, 80, 154 Windy Hill Road, Statesville, accepted the eternal rest in the grace of Christ Jesus Friday, March 9, 2012, in the arms of his beloved wife, Carol, and in the presence of his children, Charles Lawrence Swanson (wife, Mary), Jean Marie Swanson, Donna Swanson Allison (husband, Mark) and William Connell Swanson.

He is survived by his four children and nine grandchildren, Charles Swanson, Martha Swanson, Kyndall McCann (husband, Sandy), Amy McCann, Michelle Bickford, Ben Dyer, Ashleigh Dyer, Austin James Allison and Anastasia Swanson Wintemute (husband, Dan) and many stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.

Billie was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dawn Swanson Dyer.

Billie lived a life full of passion and happiness.

After his retirement from Uniglass in Statesville, he spent many hours assisting friends and family with building and "fixing," giving liberally of his time, labor, talents and possessions.

He made extraordinary wine, and enjoyed giving away the bounty of his garden.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Billie also exuded an extraordinary, genuine wisdom and grace, which he passed to his children and friends all over North Carolina.

The Swanson family invites all who knew and enjoyed Billie's company to a celebration of the passion of life to honor his passing at Yadkin Baptist Church in Statesville Saturday, March 17, at noon.

Visitation will follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, Billie's wife and family ask that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name.
