MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Jessie Rose Odom Waller-Jones, 85, Mount Olive, passed away peacefully late Monday evening, May 13, 2013, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of the Dobbersville area of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. "Joe" and Josephine Jordan Odom.

She was a longtime member of Brownings United Methodist Church, but often attended Smith Chapel, too, and had a long tenure of volunteer service with the Wayne County chapter of the American Red Cross.

She will be remembered as being a home economics teacher with the Wayne County schools, after which she became a social worker with Cherry Hospital before retirement.

She was a lifelong student, always eager to learn, taking courses in various interests to continually broaden her horizons.

She is survived by her children, Donna W. and David Fulghum and Joe Dan and Karen Waller all of the Mount Olive area; her stepson, Gary H. Jones of New Bern; her beloved grandchildren, George and Lynne Fulghum of Mount Olive, Jody and Emily Fulghum of Durham, Henry and Amy Fulghum of Seven Springs and Blake Cooper of Raleigh; five great-grandchildren, David Allen Fulghum, Lillie Rose Fulghum, Georgia Lynne Fulghum, Stephen Thomas Fulghum and Katherine Elizabeth Fulghum; and her wonderful caregivers, whose service and compassion allowed her to remain at home during the declining periods in her life, Flora Chambers, Linda Bennett, Marie Kennedy, Heather Otellio, Betty Jo Hobbs and Bill Best.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband May 4, 2013, Harold Gray Jones; her former husband and the father of her children, Stephen Allen Waller; a daughter-in-law, Jayne Grimes Waller; and a brother, who died as a young boy, Ralph Odom.

A service to remember her life will be held Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, and will be officiated by the Rev. Steven Wicks and the Rev. Uiyeon Kim.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, and likewise at the cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or the Wayne County chapter of American Red Cross, 600 N. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

A Tyndall service.
