Walter Barney Crumpler Jr., 78, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Duke Medical Center.

W.B. was born in Wayne County on Dec. 6, 1934, to the late Walter B. Crumpler Sr. and Nora Adams Crumpler.

He was a business school graduate of East Carolina University and worked for many years as a public accountant in Goldsboro. W.B. served his country in the United States Navy Reserve. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church.

W.B. lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community. He was a 55-year member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 A.F. & A.M. where he served as past master. W.B. was also a member of the Sudan Shriners and the Goldsboro York Rite Bodies where he served as secretary and recorder for 14 years.

Scouting played a large role in W.B.'s life and because of that, he achieved the rank of Eagle. He was also a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge No. 139 B.P.O.E. and served as secretary for seven years.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carol Pierson officiating.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Masonic rites.

The family will greet friends Tuesday immediately following the service in McChesney Hall at First Presbyterian Church and following the graveside service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kim and Philip Brogden, 566 Braswell Road, Goldsboro.

W.B. is survived by his wife, Julia Berry Crumpler; daughter, Kim Brogden and her husband, Philip of Goldsboro; son, Chip Crumpler of Goldsboro; three grandsons, Harris Brogden, Ethan Brogden and Andrew Crumpler; sister, Ava White of Goldsboro; niece, Ellen Eubanks and nephew, Steve Jackson. He is also survived by his loving and supportive extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Mission Fund, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, NC 27530. Flowers are welcome.
