Helen Lee Johnson Hamlin, 89, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Sis," of 207 Pearson St., Goldsboro, departed her earthly life on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Kitty Atkins Hospice Center.

Helen was born in Lenoir County on Nov. 30, 1924, to the late Mr. William Johnson Jr. and Lizzie Nobles Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Leodis Hamlin.

Helen attended and graduated from the School for the Deaf in Wilson.

She was a lifelong member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she participated and enjoyed a wonderful deaf ministry.

Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Fellowship Baptist Church, 332 Arrington Bridge Road, Goldsboro. Pastor John Shore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery, 2753 Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 South George Street, Goldsboro. Also, the family will be present at McIntyre Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to7 p.m. to receive other family members and friends.

Leaving to cherish her memories are one son, Leodis Hamlin Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Ja-lisha Hamlin, J'Quonn Dancy, Leah Hamlin and Shawn Price; two brothers, Leroy Johnson of Dudley and Boyzell Johnson (Bertha) of Goldsboro; four sisters-in-law, Louise Johnson of Goldsboro, Obreine Hamlin, Hermione Hamlin and Gladys Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Hamlin of Dendron, Va.; a special friend, Ozzie Grantham of Goldsboro; a special niece and caregiver, Rhonda J. Floyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On Thursday, the family and friends will assemble one hour prior, at 11:50 a.m., at the residence, 207 Pearson St., Goldsboro, in preparation for the funeral procession.

Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 South George Street, Goldsboro, beginning on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
