Selby Franklin Brown, 50, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Selby was born in Wayne County May 16, 1963, to Selby Jackson Brown and Mae Evans Williamson.

He was employed with SPX in Goldsboro.

Selby was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors in the woods. He was a hunter of big and small game, and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun.

Selby was a man who lived by the motto: "Born to hunt and forced to work." He was a member of Arrowhead and Outback Hunting Clubs.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at United In Christ Church, with the Rev. Ira Williford officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Marvin Wiggins officiating.

Selby is survived by his father, Selby Jackson Brown and wife, Linda; mother, Mae Evans Williamson; fiancée, Linda Kay Brown; sister, Donna Holcombe and husband, Corbett; nephews, Cory and Kendell; his stepbrothers, Tommy Jones, Scottie Jones and Dennis Jones; and several special aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Franklin Brown, Emma Cannon Brown, Ruth Callder Evans and Raymond Evans.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Cures for the Colors, Southeastern Medical Oncology Center, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staffs at Southeastern Oncology, Wayne Memorial Hospital and Gentiva Home Health and Hospice for the love and care they provided for Selby during his fight with cancer. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also a thank you to his nurse assistant, Claire, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, who cared for Selby while he was a patient on the fourth floor.
