June 7, 1924-Dec. 31, 2017

Mildred Wilson Powell, 93, went to be with her Lord Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Cary while surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born in Montgomery, Ala., June 7, 1924, to the late Elon and Sadie Wilson. She was married to the late James Boyd Powell.

Mildred enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends.

She was a valued employee of Belk, where she expressed her talent through visual merchandising.

However her greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mildred will be sorely missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined with other family that has gone before her.

She was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

A graveside service celebrating Mildred's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Wayne Memorial Park, with her grandson, John Powell, officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Mildred is survived by her children, Shirley Jo Powell, Donald J. Powell and Jan Powell all from Cary; grandchildren, Jennifer Mullen, Darron Powell, Dana Powell, Lindsey Weiner, John Powell and Meredith Powell; and great-grandchildren, Cooper Mullen, Gracie Mullen, Presley Mullen, Taylor Weiner and Stuart Weiner.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stuart Lamar Powell.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
