Softball -- EW batters bash Patriots

MOREHEAD CITY -- Eastern Wayne's Ashley Smith paced four Lady Warriors with multi-hit games as Eastern Wayne rolled to a 9-3 win at West Carteret on Monday.
Smith turned in a three-hit performance while driving in a run.
The Warriors (2-3 overall) picked up their first Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference win, improving to 1-2 in ECC play.
Emily Sasser, Kristen Elliott and Jasmine Lee each had two hits each with Sasser providing an RBI and Lee and Elliott adding a double each. Eastern Wayne's nine runs and 12 hits were season highs.
"They weren't bloop hits, they were good solid hits," Eastern Wayne coach Scott Waller said. "On a cold night, they did better than I thought they would.
"That's the best hitting we have had in a couple of years."
Eastern Wayne's Ginny Narron picked up the win, yielding three unearned runs on two hits in four innings of work, while striking out five. Katie Jones tossed three scoreless innings of relief.
The Warriors return to ECC action at home on Thursday against West Craven.
