Softball -- NJ takes Carolina showdown

FARMVILLE -- North Johnston's Candice Evans won a pitching duel against Farmville Central on Tuesday, taking a 1-0 Carolina Conference softball victory.
Evans tossed a one-hit shutout for North Johnston (7-1, 2-0 CC), striking out seven and walking one. Margo Brady took the loss for Farmville, allowing five hits.
Amanda Pope started the fifth for the Panthers with a single and scored on a double by Evans after a base hit by Hannah Ellis.
Pope and Evans had two hits each for North Johnston.
Farmville (1-1, 0-1 CC) visits Rosewood today. North Johnston takes on Smithfield-Selma Thursday at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
