Golf -- CBA's Smith is medalist at Lane Tree match

Dustin Smith seized medalist honors with a season-low 72, an even-par score, on the Lane Tree layout Thursday afternoon as Charles B. Aycock stopped Greene Central 313-329 in a non-conference boys golf match.
Jonathan Burke complemented Smith's effort with a 76. Teammates Ryan Walderman and Jeff Mullins turned in rounds of 78 and 87, respectively.
Colby Murphy led Greene Central with a 77.
C.B. Aycock (21-1) returns to action Monday in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match at Lane Tree. The Golden Falcons hold a slim six-stroke lead against West Carteret.
Greene Central (6-4) travels to Bradford Creek next Monday for an Eastern Plains 2-A meet.
